The Power of Social Media Influencers and their Impact on MY Life!

August 7th, 2025

When I think of social media, I often think about my favorite influencers. These are people I follow who, while they do not directly affect my life, I do wait, impatiently, to see their daily posts come up on my feed. These are people from all over the world, with different aesthetics and styles, who have come together on one app, where I have created my perfect feed that could quite possibly be used to describe every interest I have had since middle school. This ranges from food interests, sports, parenting, and even clothing or house decorating. At every stage of my life, there has been a page that I follow that describes it.

What do I notice about their marketing?

When I look at the marketing tactics of the people I follow on social media, I see a wide range of people who are all successful at displaying one thing: authenticity that builds trust. The influencers I follow show their authenticity through the use of genuine content and recommendations from personal use of products that have been seen on their pages over and over, from extensive usage. An example of this would be on one of the family homesteading pages I follow. I have been able to watch this family move from a small apartment to a suburban neighborhood home and finally to their dream homesteading house on acreage. With all of these moves, financial gain, and even a newer, larger home, this family has maintained and loved their large sectional sofa that they have used for every family movie night since their kid's birth, and they have recommended it time and time again. This authenticity and realness are what drive trust and sales for companies that pair with the right influencers.

What Strategies are these influencers employing?

Multiple Social Media Platforms: Many of the influencers that I follow have large followings on multiple social media apps, the most popular being  TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook. By having multiple social media accounts with large followings on each, it allows influencers to reach a larger audience and cater to diverse audience preferences. Also, it helps to mitigate risks that come with relying solely on one platform.

Testimonials: Almost all of the Influencers that I follow provide testimonials of products or places they are posting about. Storytelling about specific places or products is the influencer's way to make things feel personal so that trust is created throughout the entirety of their page.

Consistency: Consistency is key when using social media platforms. Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook are used daily by the influencers I follow to maintain contact with their audience and to keep their following on all platforms. Media such as Twitter are one of the lesser-used because it is a platform that is known for real-time updates and has a lower sustained engagement overall.

What role do influencers play in marketing?

Influencers play a crucial part in marketing by being the "middleman" between large companies and customers who find it more entertaining to shop via a tagged coupon code on a TikTok video. Influencers are able to leverage their established audience and credibility to promote brands, products, or services that they already love. Also, influencers can help companies in the way that they provide valuable feedback from customers on products or services so that companies can improve their offerings and preferred products.

Marketing perspective and the relationship between the company and the consumer.

A marketing perspective significantly impacts the relationship between a company and its consumers by shaping how the company communicates, interacts, and builds value in itself. For example, when a company partners with an influencer who has a similar goal or value to the company, it is crucial for the customers because it creates this sense of trust and convenience. In turn, the customer can now interact with the company at ease, knowing shared values have been established and that they know what to expect from future interactions.
